Approach
PerPrev-CID takes a holistic approach to address the complexity and diversity of chronic inflammatory diseases (CIDs), aiming to develop innovative preventive strategies and improve practices for physicians, people living with these conditions, and healthcare stakeholders. To achieve these outcomes, PerPrev-CID is taking the following steps:

exploring cross-sectional and longitudinal Omics-data sets and dense clinical phenotypes from people with RA and IBD and large cohorts of healthy at-risk individuals, using accessible biomaterial (blood and stool) for molecular data generation.

evaluating digital tools in a co-creation process with affected individuals for ongoing home-based monitoring to capture data from people with CIDs, along with certified self-sampling solutions for minimally invasive blood collection and stool sampling.

testing a nutrition-based intervention with ileocolonic release NAM (a medication designed to target the intestines) in early-stage IBD and RA individuals to assess its impact on inflammation and microbial balance in blood and stool samples, comparing it with a placebo alongside regular care.

using advanced algorithms for data extraction, mechanistic analysis, and secure sharing through swarm learning, combining personal health data with molecular information and predictive algorithms, including explainable AI (XAI), for individual risk prediction

exploring views of people living with RA and IBD on risk-based intervention and how to communicate them safely and ethically, assessing the economic impact of the interventions, and engaging with regulators on personalised preventive care in European policy.
