VIB - Vlaams Instituut voor Biotechnologie (Flemish Institute for Biotechnology)
VIB-KU Leuven Center for Microbiology is a global leader in the field of microbiology that combines basic research on microorganisms with translational research and industrial valorisation. Raes lab combines large-scale sequencing, cohort studies, microbiology and synthetic ecology with computational approaches to investigate the functioning and variability of the human microbiome and study its alteration and modulation in disease.
Role within PerPrev-CID
The Raes lab has a substantial track record in microbiome research and has been pioneering the analysis and integration of meta-omics datasets with environmental, clinical and dietary data, in both large-scale populations and clinical intervention studies. Within PerPrev CID, our primary focus is on Work Package 5 (as lead), WP6 and 7. In this role, we will investigate temporal variations in the microbiome, metabolome and methylome of healthy individuals at various time-scale (days, months, years) using existing large-scale datasets, including cohorts from Flemish Gut Flora Project. Studying the variation in microbiome and host factors in healthy individuals, as a reference, is critical to identify changes in disease.
